Apprenticeships: Building skills, shaping careers
Become an Apprentice Ambassador
Become an Employer Ambassador
We are WMAAN
The West Midlands Apprenticeship Ambassador Network (WMAAN) is the regional arm of the national Apprenticeship Ambassador Network (AAN). We inspire employers and apprentices, by volunteering our time to promote apprenticeships, and connect people with ambition to businesses with vision.
As a central powerhouse of employment, the West Midlands offers vast opportunities for apprentices to gain skills and shape careers, and for employers to attract and grow talent.
Our Ambassadors showcase and share their real lived experiences online, in schools, with SMEs, at events and career workshops. Together we amplify positivity to engage and influence participation in apprenticeships.
Who’s involved
Employers, educators, apprentices and former apprentices from the Black Country, Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire, The Marches, Greater Birmingham & Solihull, Worcestershire, Coventry & Warwickshire, all make up the WMAAN.
Each of the six sub regions has an Apprentice Champion and an Employer Champion. The WMAAN Leadership has two Employer Co-Chairs, and an Apprentice Chair and is supported by a Project Co-ordinator.
Upcoming events
Connection is at the heart of the WMAAN and our region hosts four meetings annually, where progress against our KPIs is presented and assessed, and action plans are formulated. Ambassadors report back on their active participation in mentorship, attendance of local apprenticeship events, projects and promotional campaigns. There’s plenty of opportunity for input, to share best practice, learn, offer and receive support, and further develop the network.

“For National Apprenticeship Week I got to visit Parliament and meet some of the MPs. It gave me a good opportunity to network and meet people. I am currently working on Valhalla, which has been enjoyable. I have also had the chance to go out and visit schools in the local area and chat with other people of similar age about my experience here at Aston. I find there is not a huge gap between senior management and myself, making it feel like a close and personal place to work.”

“I’m proud when I look back at my career journey, starting with my apprenticeship. Observing and learning the company’s key processes from the outset gave me knowledge and confidence to speak to customers and instil confidence in them that we can provide solutions and partner them. I recently spoke in front of an audience of 600 at an apprenticeship ceremony. I must admit it was scary, but if I can inspire others to seize on the opportunities an apprenticeship offers like I have, then it’s got to be worth it.”
